Dhanteras Festival celebrate on October 15 2009. Dhanteras also known as Dhantrayodashi or Dhanwantari Triodasi. Dhanteras Festival falls 2 days before diwali. Dhanteras 2009 Festival on Dhanteras Goddess Laxmi is worshiped to provide prosperity and well being. Dhanteras Festival is honour of Dhanavantri, the physician of the gods and an incarnation of Vishnu. The word “Dhan” means wealth and “Teras” means thirteen.
A story behind this Dhanteras Festival. King Hima’s son to die by a snake bite on fourth day of his marriage. But his wife saved her husband from the death. So this day is called Dhanteras.
In Dhanteras day houses and business premises are decorated. Premises entrances are made colorful with lovely traditional rangoli designs to welcome the goddess lakshmi of wealth and prosperity. Womens purchase some gold or silver jewels or coins on this day. Pooja is performed in the evening time when small diyas of clay are lighted to drive away the shadows of evil spirits. Devotional songs and sung goddess Lakshmi songs during Dhanteras puja.
